The capacity to recognise your limits, preferences and conditions for participation, then communicate or act on them without treating another person’s disappointment as automatic proof you are wrong.
Boundaries & consent is the capacity to recognise the conditions under which your participation is genuinely available.
A boundary is not a punishment and consent is not a personality trait. Both become meaningful in specific situations, with actual bodies, consequences, relationships and choices.
This capacity includes relational standards and a somatic yes / no: not the fantasy that the body is infallible, but enough contact with sensation, hesitation and preference that your answer does not have to be produced entirely from habit or fear of reaction.
The glossary entries on Boundaries, Consent and Assertiveness provide the conceptual ground. Your Mouth Said Yes. Your Body Had Not Been Consulted. explores why a clear idea can still be difficult to enact.
I Want to Be Touched works with contact and discernment; That’s Not Me works with the roles that can make limits harder to recognise.
