A method for meeting yourself while life is still happening

You understand so much...
But are you living what you know?
You can know exactly why you keep saying yes and still hear yourself agreeing before you’ve checked whether you want to.
You can recognise your own talent and keep the work hidden. Understand your longing and make very little room for it. Have a beautifully articulate relationship with your patterns while they continue to organise your life.
There’s something tender, and occasionally infuriating, about knowing yourself this well and still wanting more freedom.
I AWAKE gives you a way to explore that space.
Created by Camilla Wellton, the method brings together reading, guided audio, reflection, body awareness and imagination, with invitations to carry what you discover into ordinary life.
You have somewhere to begin, something to practise and room to find your own response.

Your whole self gets a say
An explanation might help you recognise something. A question might make it personal. Listening with your attention on your body might reveal a response you hadn’t noticed while reading.
An image might give that response a shape.
And a small action might let you discover what happens when you take it seriously.

The I AWAKE method brings these different ways of exploring yourself into relationship.
You move between words, sensation, emotion, imagination and choice, approaching the same subject from more than one direction.
You might write that you’re comfortable being seen, then notice how carefully you’ve hidden every unfinished piece of work. You might discover that the closeness you keep asking for looks different from the closeness you actually enjoy.
Those are useful discoveries. Especially the slightly inconvenient ones.
They give you something real to work with.

How the practice unfolds
The form varies across the I AWAKE universe. A guided seven-day journey has a different scope from a deeper exploration of your inner world.
Across them, you’ll recognise a shared approach.

1 Arrive as you are
You begin by noticing what you’re bringing with you.
Perhaps you’re curious. Perhaps you’re tired, distracted or quietly hoping this won’t become another thing you’re supposed to be good at.
The guided audio that opens every chapter invites you to turn your attention towards your present experience.
You don’t have to manufacture a peaceful mood before beginning. How you are today belongs in the practice.
2 Read until something meets you
The writing introduces the theme of each chapter through recognisable moments, ideas and questions.
Sometimes a sentence gives language to something you’ve felt for years. Sometimes you disagree. Sometimes you need to put the book down because a question has followed you off the page.
There’s room for all of that. Your response is part of the encounter.
3 Give yourself an honest answer
You always get to express yourself!
Where does this happen? What do you want? What have you assumed? What might you be ready to try?
There’s space in the books and on th course platform for you write down your answers to specific questions present in the books. You can write something thoughtful, messy, funny, contradictory or unfinished.
You can change your mind halfway through.
If you choose either of our subscriptions, Aurora your practice partner or the practice space, you can deepen your exploration exponentially!
4 Let your body join the conversation
Guided body awareness invites you to notice sensation alongside thought.
A held breath. Warmth in your chest. Restlessness. Heaviness. An unexpected ease. Perhaps very little that you can name.
Where a body map is included, you can use colour to record what you notice without having to explain it first.
These observations give you another perspective on your experience.
You explore them alongside the situation, your history and your judgment.
A sensation deserves attention without having to become an instruction.
5 Make room for imagination
Some experiences are easier to approach through an image, a place or a symbolic encounter.
The inner geography of the I AWAKE universe isn’t just a gimmick. It’s there to give you a way to map the continents and topology of your inner world.
The guided imaginal practices give imagination a deliberate place in the work. You can explore a possibility, notice your response and reflect on what it means to you.
You remain the person who decides what to take from it.
The Hidden Hero’s Journey explores the wider symbolic world in depth; the Sensual and Creative Hero’s Journeys bring imaginal practice into the subjects you’re working with.
You don’t need to believe in a particular worldview to practice imaginal journeys. You’re invited to be curious about what an experience brings up for you, while keeping your own discernment.
6 Bring something back
The practice makes room for a next step.
Perhaps you give yourself time before answering a request. Share a piece of work while it’s still imperfect. Ask for the kind of contact you actually want. Notice an old interpretation and check whether it fits this situation.
This is where the exploration meets your life.
Small enough to try. Specific enough to learn from.

The audio belongs to the method
Reading and listening ask different things of you.
With a book, you follow the words, pause over an idea and write your response. With guided audio, you can set the page down and let your attention move towards sensation, imagery and what’s happening inside you as you listen.
In the I AWAKE universe’s experiences, the audio is an essential part. The book and the recording are designed to be used together.
You’re given guidance through the practice, with space to notice your own response.

Different parts of your life
You might want to feel closer to yourself.
You might be fed up that something you want to create keeps getting postponed. By You.
Or you’ve begun to wonder how your experience of reality takes shape and what your active role is.
Each Hero’s Journey gives that curiosity somewhere to go.

For how you feel, want and connect
Your relationship with your body. The closeness you long for. The pleasure you allow yourself. The needs you’ve become very good at explaining away.
Here, the method approaches the intimate territory of being you: sensation, desire, boundaries, emotional life and connection.
Sensuality includes the everyday experience of feeling life through your senses. Warm water. Music. Touch you welcome. A meal you actually taste. Your own company becoming somewhere you enjoy being.

For what you want to create in this world
The idea you keep returning to. The work you care about. The permission you’re still waiting for. The practical and emotional demands of letting something grow.
Here, the method turns towards creative agency: recognising what matters to you, finding your stance and taking action you can learn from.
Your creativity gets somewhere to go beyond the privacy of your own potential.

For how your inner world shapes the world you experience
The identities you inhabit. The interpretations that arrive before you’ve questioned them. The emotional associations, symbols and inherited stories through which life acquires meaning.
Here, the method explores reality literacy: becoming more attentive to the relationship between what happens, what you experience and what you make of it.
The symbolic world gives you a language for that exploration, while inviting you to remain curious about your conclusions.

Why a call it Hero’s Journey?
Because discovering something about yourself is only part of the story.
There’s also approaching what feels unfamiliar. Meeting a difficulty. Finding help. Trying something. Revising what you thought you knew. Bringing what you’ve learned into the way you live.
The Hero’s Journey gives that movement a narrative shape.
You might recognise it in a conversation you’ve avoided, a piece of work you finally share or a familiar situation you meet with a little more choice.
The word “hero” leaves room for a person who hesitates, takes a break and begins again.
Which is fortunate. Most of us have other things to do as well.
