Heart opening

The capacity to stay available to tenderness, feeling and connection without requiring softness to mean passivity, agreement or the absence of protection.

Heart opening is the capacity to remain available to tenderness, affection and emotional contact without confusing openness with surrendering discernment.

A heart can be open and still say no. It can be moved and still recognise incompatibility. It can love and still leave.

Softness does not cancel judgement.

Heart-led response means allowing feeling to participate in a decision without asking feeling to decide everything. The aim is not permanent openness. It is enough flexibility that care, grief, anger, affection and protection do not have to fight for a single authorised voice.

The glossary entries on Tenderness, Vulnerability and Emotional availability give useful distinctions. The Feeling Was True. The Verdict May Not Be. looks at how feeling can be honoured without becoming the entire interpretation.

Unleash My Heart develops this capacity through emotional differentiation, grief contact and the possibility of responding without abandoning the heart or being ruled by it.
