Embodiment & presence

The capacity to include bodily sensation, position and present-time information in how you understand a moment, rather than living only in explanation, prediction or replay.

Embodiment & presence is the capacity to include the body and the current environment in how you know where you are.

A mind can travel very quickly into prediction, memory and interpretation. The body also carries information: pressure, breath, warmth, orientation, effort, fatigue, movement and the simple fact of being somewhere now.

What becomes available when the present is allowed back in?

This capacity includes present-time orientation and sensory self-contact. It is not a claim that sensation always tells the truth. It gives first-person bodily experience a place beside thought, history and outside information.

The glossary entries on Embodiment, Presence and Body awareness provide useful context. Before the Sentence, the Jaw explores why bodily information belongs in reflection without becoming infallible.

I Want to Be Touched is particularly concerned with this capacity through sensation, contact and receiving.
