Emotional availability means being able and willing to participate in emotional contact, including listening, responding and allowing another person’s experience to matter.
It isn’t permanent access. Nobody is available every minute, and having limits doesn’t make a person incapable of closeness.

Can a difficult feeling be mentioned? Does a request receive a response? Can disappointment exist without the connection immediately becoming threatened?
Affection can be genuine and availability still limited. You may love someone who can’t reliably offer what you need. Recognising that difference isn’t an insult to the good between you.
