Jealousy is a response to a perceived threat to an important relationship or your place within it. It can include fear, anger, comparison, sadness and the wish for reassurance.
Envy concerns something another person has. Jealousy often concerns something you fear losing. In real life, the feelings can overlap.
The feeling is yours. Another person’s freedom isn’t.
You notice a partner enjoying someone’s company. What worries you? A real breach of an agreement? Being less interesting? The possibility that you’re more invested than they are?
Different concerns need different conversations.
You can ask for clarity about agreements and care without treating jealousy as automatic permission to monitor, restrict or accuse.
The Sensual Hero’s Journey explores relationships through particular needs and responses, not a rule that jealousy proves love or makes you a bad person. The Hidden Hero’s Journey also asks what part of an interpretation is observed and what is anticipated.
Need helps make the request more specific. Trust concerns what repeated behaviour allows you to rely on, rather than what reassurance can promise in one moment.
Noba’s Attachment Through the Life Course introduces research on closeness and security in relationships. It provides context without making an attachment label the whole explanation of a particular situation.
