Present Bridge is the name used in They Said Time Would…, a guided seven-day book of the Sensual Hero’s Journey, for a small movement from a familiar reaction towards the present situation.
The emphasis is on the difference available now, not pretending the past never mattered.
What can this moment offer that the old one couldn’t?
You hear, "Can we talk?" and begin preparing a defence. You don’t yet know what the person wants to discuss.
Perhaps this time you can ask. Take a moment. Notice who is speaking and whether their actual behaviour resembles the situation you remember.
There may be a real concern in the present. There may also be information, support or choices that weren’t available before. The practice invites attention to those differences.
A bridge doesn’t require a dramatic leap into fearlessness. A small, specific response may be enough to interrupt treating a familiar feeling as a complete account of what is happening.
Orientation helps you notice where you are. Protective response examines what appears quickly, before a more considered choice has had time to join in.
