Relational Integrity concerns how people come close without coercion, fusion or self-erasure. Boundaries help us know where we are. Consent governs what we voluntarily allow. Trust develops through experience. Vulnerability lets something real become visible.
To explore these distinctions in everyday relationships, begin with the meaning of boundaries and the meaning of consent. They are related, but they answer different questions about your participation and another person’s access to you.
The five capacities
Trust
Trust is the capacity to extend reliance proportionately on the basis of experience, evidence, consistency and repair.
Boundaries are the capacity to recognize, communicate and maintain distinctions concerning access, responsibility, time, touch, emotional labor and obligation.
The relationships matter as much as the individual capacities. Follow any connection below to see how these abilities support, regulate or complicate one another.
