The capacity to remain in contact with loss and heartbreak without demanding that feeling disappear on a timetable or letting the past become the only time available.
Grief & heartbreak is the capacity to stay in contact with loss without making disappearance the only acceptable outcome.
Some grief softens quickly. Some returns through anniversaries, places, gestures, songs or a sentence you did not expect to hurt. The presence of feeling does not by itself tell you whether you are moving, stuck, healing or failing.
Grief contact means being able to recognise sadness, longing, anger or tenderness as part of the present experience while also noticing what belongs to memory. The capacity is not measured by how little you feel. It is measured by whether feeling leaves any room for orientation, choice and life beside it.
The glossary entries on Grief, Sadness and Reconstructive memory provide useful context. Time Passed. The Pattern Came With You. explores what time changes and what it does not change by itself.
They Said Time Would… works directly with the ache that remains and the difference between remembering and reliving.
