The Silence Between Heartbeats
A journey into the geography of feeling

There is the feeling you can name. Around it are memories, expectations, tenderness and places you keep guarded.

The Silence Between Heartbeats is the planned emotional-life deep dive in The Hidden Hero’s Journey™. Its garden landscape helps you explore how that inner world takes shape, and how you might tend it more consciously.

Different feelings can live beside one another without any one having to explain the whole of you.

What kind of world does the feeling gather around it?

A disappointment arrives, and suddenly other disappointments are close at hand. The future looks as though it already knows how to let you down. For a while, the feeling has become a landscape.

You can be honest about what hurt and curious about how the scene grew. What belongs to this moment? What has memory brought? What else is still living here?

Several feelings can have a place

Relief and grief can share the same ending. A protective anger can stand beside affection. Something once nourishing can change while its history remains precious.

Garden helps you see these experiences together. Instead of making one feeling win, you can ask about the conditions around each and the relationships between them.

Darling, shall we leave room for what the hardest feeling might not be showing you?

What would you like to make room for?

Imagine a garden arranged around protecting one tender place. That protection may matter. You may also want room for curiosity, pleasure or closeness.

Try picturing a place for it. What would make it possible in your life: rest, company, time that is yours?

Changing the picture is a beginning, not a demand that feeling follow. You can tend the conditions and stay curious about what becomes possible.

The forms help you see from another place

A story can let you enter an emotional world that resembles yours without beginning with your own explanation. A poem can make the texture of a feeling easier to notice. An imagined garden can show what you place near, far away or behind protection.

Psychological prose and practical inquiry then help you consider what those discoveries mean. These forms belong to the book’s intended direction, each offering a different way to explore the same territory.

From finding yourself in a world to participating in it

You cannot choose every feeling or change another person by drawing a different picture. You can learn to notice what you rehearse, what you make room for and which meanings you keep returning to.

That participation is the heart of this deep dive. The intention is to help you become more aware of the world being made within you, with more freedom to choose how you care for what you feel.

Questions that deepen the map

Which feelings have become easy to find, and which have almost no place?

How do memory and imagination change the emotional atmosphere?

What care, permission or practical change could make another experience possible?

Nine chapters, with room to return

The planned nine chapters give time to emotional conditions, protection, encounter, loss and the possibility of receiving life differently. You can return to the same inner landscape and notice how your view changes.

A map made during grief may need revisiting when company arrives. A place you thought was empty may reveal exhaustion, or simply remain quiet. The book is intended to leave room for those discoveries.

Questions
and answers

The garden gives you a way to notice the conditions of emotional life. You may choose to give a feeling more attention, make room for another experience or seek different care. What you feel may change, or it may remain much as it was.

You are tending a living territory, with conditions you can influence and others you cannot. The map can help you see that difference.

Use the questions that help and leave the rest. You can map feelings in words, colours or a simple list of what seems present and what surrounds it.

The image is there to make emotional relationships easier to explore. Your experience does not need to rearrange itself to satisfy the metaphor.

Yes. The domain page introduces the psychological territory and offers a complete mapping inquiry you can try with your own notes or journal. Work on the books is planned for 2027.

The planned shape of the book

Nine chapters are planned, bringing poetry, short fiction, imagined journeys and psychological prose together with writing, body, voice and artistic practices.

Circle provides the shared entry and return: choosing your scope, adjusting the distance and closing the exploration. Finished contents and materials will be confirmed as the books develop.

Planned for the next chapter of I AWAKE

The Silence Between Heartbeats is one of six planned deep dives in The Hidden Hero’s Journey™. Work on the books is planned for 2027.

You can begin now with the domain introduction and its mapping inquiry.

Your landscape does not have to look a certain way

Perhaps images come easily. Perhaps you would rather use words, colours or a few marks on a page. The garden is a way to explore, not a picture you have to produce correctly.

You can include intensity, uncertainty and very little feeling. The useful map is the one that helps you notice your experience, including where the metaphor does not fit.

You might recognise this

You want to understand how a feeling can become the world you seem to live in.

You are curious about the images, meanings and conditions shaping emotional life.

You want to take a more conscious part in that life without demanding control over every response.

Begin with the landscape of one experience

Choose a recent experience you feel willing to revisit. Describe what happened and the feelings it left with you. Then consider how those feelings might sit beside one another in a garden, using words or a sketch.

The emotional-domain page guides you through a complete mapping inquiry, including what you know, what you are imagining and what you might choose to tend. You can stop here and return when you have room.

Six domains of your inner geography

Emotional life belongs beside identity, perception, instinct, inheritance and awareness. The six domains give these psychological territories landscapes you can explore: House, Sky, Garden, Forest, Ocean and Space.

One experience can touch several. You choose where to begin and can return through another doorway as the map becomes more detailed.

Reality Literacy means noticing how experience takes shape while keeping it in relationship with what can be observed, asked and checked. Your emotional map is meaningful. It can also change as you discover more.

A different scale of exploration

The Sensual Hero’s Journey™ offers focused journeys into lived questions of feeling, relationship and contact. This deep dive steps back to explore the emotional world in which those experiences take place, and your participation in its making.

The two approaches can speak to each other. You can follow the question that is alive for you now.

Let the map have room to grow

Begin with what you can notice today. The emotional domain offers a place to meet the landscape and start participating in its care.
