The domain Forest is one of six domains of I AWAKE’s Hidden Hero’s Journey, which explores the influences shaping how you experience life. The domain Forest attends to instinct, protective responses and the symbolic figures through which you can meet them.
You laugh before admitting you’re hurt. Agree before noticing your reluctance. Withdraw before discovering whether someone can hear you.
Afterwards, you have an excellent explanation.
In the moment, the response was quicker.
The protector may have a point. It may also need new information.
An imagined guard or animal gives a familiar response a form you can approach. What is it watching for? What does it refuse? How do you feel towards it: grateful, irritated, frightened, tender?
Those details make the encounter different from ordering yourself to stop being defensive.
The forest image holds paths, hiding places and encounters with what isn’t immediately visible. The Roots Are Listening is the Guided Dive through the domain Forest, offering a longer exploration through reading, imagination and guided audio.
You aren’t required to fight every part of yourself that learned to protect you. You can become more curious about what protection costs now.
Protective response gives the everyday pattern a clearer description. Archetype introduces the background to recurring figures such as a guardian or trickster.
The International Association for Analytical Psychology’s Active Imagination explains the Jungian approach to engaging with inner images. It offers a neighbouring tradition for understanding an encounter with a figure, rather than reducing the figure immediately to a label.
