About this journey
The work is almost ready. It has been almost ready for a while.
You write what you mean, imagine who might object, then soften it. Or your project barely reaches the desk because everybody else's time seems easier to protect than your own. You want to make something you can stand behind, and let another person meet it.
I’m Done Asking is an illustrated guided creative immersion in the Realm of Permission, part of I AWAKE's The Creative Hero’s Journey. Its nine chapters explore what happens between knowing what you want to create and allowing yourself to act on it.
Useful feedback still matters. A reader can show you where they lost the thread; a collaborator can see a possibility you missed. The question is when you are asking for advice to improve the work, and when you are asking someone else to remove the uncertainty of choosing.
Carry an actual project through the chapters: a page, offer, design, performance or decision. Reading, guided writing, creative exercises and body-based practices bring the question into situations such as:
- Keeping time for your own work when another request arrives.
- Revising a creation without removing what you meant to say.
- Choosing whose feedback is useful and making a decision after hearing it.
- Sharing a first attempt while leaving room for a response you cannot control.
The Circle, a guided imaginal encounter, offers another way to meet hesitation through image, sensation and relationship. You can become curious about what a protective response expects, then consider what belongs in your work and conversations.
You do not need a finished project or a public launch. The next step may be one trusted reader, one clear offer or an hour you keep. Read and practise at your own pace, returning to the same project so you can notice what changes.
Let someone meet what you actually mean. You can listen to their response and remain the person who chooses.
