Longing

Longing is a sustained wish for something that feels absent or out of reach: closeness, recognition, a place, a possibility or a way of feeling alive.

Longing is a sustained wish for something that feels absent or out of reach: closeness, recognition, a place, a possibility or a way of feeling alive.

It can be tender. It can be inconvenient. It doesn’t become less real because you’ve found several sensible reasons not to want it.

What are you hoping would happen if it arrived?

Perhaps you long for one person’s attention. What would being chosen by them mean? That you’re desirable? Safe? Finally understood?

The person may genuinely matter. So may the need gathered around their response.

I AWAKE invites attention to both. The guided seven-day books of the Sensual Hero’s Journey explore needs and relationships; the Creative Hero’s Journey also asks what recognition or achievement is being asked to provide.

The aim isn’t to explain the longing away. It is to know it well enough that one person or one imagined future doesn’t have to be its only possible answer.

Desire looks at what you want. Need asks what lies beneath a preferred solution. They can be connected without being identical.

Noba’s Emotion Experience and Well-Being provides wider context for emotional experience, including feelings that don’t disappear simply because they are difficult to satisfy.
