There was a time in my life when I thought regulation was the goal.
If I could stay composed, measured, steady then I was doing well. And in many ways, I was.

It took me years to understand that my nervous system had done exactly what it was designed to do.
It protected me.
It kept me functional.
It kept me safe.
But it also kept my heart small.
